Challenge:

OPP (Oriented Polypropylene) is a widely used material in the packaging and printing industry, known for its high clarity and stiffness. However, recycling it presents specific challenges:

• Sensitivity to Heat: OPP can degrade or turn yellow if exposed to excessive heat during extrusion.
• High Volume, Low Weight: Loose film scraps are difficult to feed into a standard extruder without pre-densification.
• Clarity Requirements: The customer needed the recycled pellets to maintain high transparency for reuse in high-end plastic products.

Purui Customized Pelletizing Solution:

For this domestic project, Purui Machinery provided streamlined single stage plastic pelletizing machine optimized for factory-clean scraps:

• Integrated Cutter Compactor: Instead of separate crushing, the film is fed directly into the compactor. This shreds, warms, and densifies the OPP film in one step, using frictional heat rather than external heaters to prevent thermal degradation.
• High L/D Ratio Screw: A specialized single screw with a high Length-to-Diameter (L/D) ratio was used to ensure thorough homogenization and stable pressure without overheating the polymer.

• Dual-Zone Vacuum Degassing: To ensure the pellets are free of air bubbles and moisture (which can cause “silver streaks” in final products), a powerful dual-zone vacuum system was integrated into the barrel.
• Precision Non-Stop Screen Changer: A hydraulic plate-type screen changer allows for quick filter swaps without halting production, maintaining a high 24/7 output.

Results & Performance:

• Energy Savings: The single-stage design consumes 15-20% less electricity compared to traditional double-stage systems for clean industrial waste.
• Pellet Quality: The pellets achieved a “Virgin-Like” clarity, allowing the client to mix up to 30-50% of recycled content back into their primary production line.
